Harry O. Channon

Harry Channon is a senior associate in the litigation department. Harry concentrates his practice in the areas of Business and Commercial Litigation, Financial Litigation, Commodities and Futures Litigation and Insurance Counseling and Litigation. He has experience in all phases of litigation including state and federal jury trials. Recently, Harry represented an insurance company against a multi-million dollar claim for breach of coverage and bad faith. Following a jury trial in the Northern District Court of Illinois and post-trial motions, Harry’s client was found not liable and he obtained a judgment against the Plaintiff for his client’s expenses incurred as a result of the litigation. In some of Harry’s other representative matters, he has:

  • Obtained summary judgment for an insurance company concerning its duty to defend and indemnify relating to an assault and battery committed by a school bus driver against a student riding the bus;
  • Successfully defended a financial advisor against claims of fraud relating to a six figure promissory note and alleged illusory investments;
  • Successfully defended a futures commission merchant and broker before the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission involving claims of fraud and violations of the Commodity Exchange Act;
  • Overturned a verdict against an insurer when the judge granted his Federal Rule 59 Renewed Motion for Judgment as a Matter of Law;
  • Obtained summary judgment for his client against a million dollar defamation suit;
  • Won an appeal representing a real estate appraiser against claims of professional malpractice (Purze v. Starkman, case no. 01-04-0223)

Harry received his Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Purdue University in 1998 where he was also a four-year letter winner on the Purdue University golf team. Harry received his Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School in 2004 and was a member of the Dean’s List. While in law school, Harry was specially licensed by the Illinois Supreme Court and tried several cases in the Domestic Violence Division of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Harry is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and has been admitted pro hac vice to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. He is also a member of the Federal Trial Bar and has volunteered for the past two years as a judge for The John Marshall Law School moot court competitions. Harry also sits on the Board of Directors for Toylend, a non-profit organization, which brings the world of play and toys to children with disabilities and their families in underserved areas of Chicago.
